Youth Injuries
Discover How Injured Dancers and Athletes Can
Get Out of
Pain And Back to Doing What They

If your child has been injured, or dealing with pain for a while, you may be worried about other injuries
to come. You may be that parent sitting there during the competition, in hopes that your child doesn't
get hurt again. You might have been told in the past that it's "nothing serious" and just "deal with it".
But you are still worried that they might get hurt again. As a result, you might just feel "stuck"
wondering if they will be able to return to dance or their sport to the same level they once were
able to compete at.

If that's happening to you and your child, you aren't alone. We hear this all the time from parents.
As a matter of fact, youth injuries are one of the most common problems that we see at our clinic
in Englewood. We've worked with youth dancers and athletes at all levels, so we've seen just about
every type of injury there is and know how to help kids recover from them without worrying again.

When it comes to youth injuries, everyone wants to know:
When Can I Get Back Out There?
or
It's Been Weeks or Months now, Why
is My Child Still Suffering from Injury
that is Stopping Them from Dance or Sport?

Most youth dancers and athletes are told to rest and ease back to their activities with
no true solutions.  Many people also believe that because kids heal fast, it will get better quickly
with just a short rest. You may have been told to rest for 4-6 weeks, and slowly go back.
But after resting and your child goes back to dance or into their sport, they're restricted -
sometimes, even worse than the first time. Often times, rest helps to alleviate some pain,
but as soon as you return to dance or play, it comes back - the rest didn't seem to solve
the problems to get them back with full confidence.

Does that Sound Like Your Child?
You are NOT Alone. We also commonly hear that their child was told by their doctor to
wear a brace and come back in 4-6 weeks if it doesn't get better.  Sometimes, they even
tell us that they can return to dance or their sport on "X" Date because their doctor said so.
But this is rarely the best advice, because there was a reason the injury or pain occurred in the
first place and it is in the best interest of our youth dancers and athletes to safely return to their
routines of dance and sports. Without it, we have seen worse injuries and repeated injuries, never
addressing the root problem that caused the injury or pain in the first place.

Has that Ever Happened to You?
You might be more confused because everyone is telling you something different. You may
have done all your research on Google as well, causing more worries about your MRI and pain.
Maybe you have followed recommendations to "rest" and "wear a brace" or even received an injection.

Youth injuries can be very confusing, because where the pain is may not be the area that needs to be
fixed and worked on. Plus, if your child rests too long, other parts of their body can also
become problematic!

It's very confusing to know exactly what to do. And because of this confusion, this often leads
parents to procrastinate and put off making a decision about what to do to help fix their child's
injury. Worse, many parents just end up accepting it as "part of their life" as if it's normal or
if it "has" to be that way.

If You're Currently Frustrated that Your Child is Missing Out
Due to their Injury, Here's 7 More Reasons Why It Could Be
Lasting Longer Than It Should:

1. You thought the pain would go away on its own, but it didn't
2. You took your child to the doctor - who told them to rest, wear a brace, and take pain
medications, but it did not help them feel fully confident going back to dance or sports
3. A family member or a friend told you that kids always get hurt and heal quickly,
so you just accepted it

4. You sought out help from other healthcare providers or physical therapists in the past,
but nothing seemed to fully help
5.  You had your child wear a brace or just do exercises at home, but it did not help
the pain get any better

6. You thought it would be a good idea to let your child just rest because of the pain, but
they were still dealing with the pain
7. You decided to take your child for a massage or have them work with a trainer hoping that
it would fix the pain, but all they did was feel nice or get a workout, and didn't help to fix
their injury long term

If any of these have happened to you and your child, we would love to invite you to book a
one-on-one call with one of our specialist so we can find out what can be done to help your child.
The fact that you have already tried to do some of these things is actually a GOOD THING!
When you know what doesn't work, you are one step closer to finding out what does work.

"What Can I Do to Get Rid of My Child's Pain Quickly...?"

Well Here Are Four Things You can Do:

1. TAKE ACTION

The most important thing that you can do right now…the thing that can drastically improve
your life is to make a decision to do something about your child's health!
So many parents procrastinate due to the mix of information and this can lead to delays,
with no change or the situation becoming worse.

2. AVOID TOO MUCH REST
While rest is an important part of the recovery process, too much rest or just rest
will not help your child recover quickly, but also will not allow them to return to
dance or sport safely. Many people believe that just rest will work, because it helps
alleviate some pain, but blood flow to stimulate healing and allowing proper recovery
with appropriate exercises to heal their injury will get them active and healthy again
as quickly as possible.

3. DO THE RIGHT EXERCISES
One of the best things to help your child recover quickly and safely from an injury
is to do the right series of progressive exercises - the right exercises given to you by
a physical therapist will help you reduce your child's pain and allow them to move
freely again, AND make sure the problems don't come back anytime soon. It is very
easy to find exercises all over the internet today, however without a physical therapy
assessment, you won't know which ones matter to your child or which ones will be
most effective to get them back quickly and safely.

4. GET REAL "HANDS ON" PHYSICAL THERAPY
Physical Therapy including real manual therapy is proven to help kids recover faster
from injuries. In fact, at Elevate Performance Therapy, it is one of our specialties! If
your child's pain is stopping them from dance or sports, and they are missing out on
their time with their friends and family, physical therapy can help get your child back
to living the life they deserve as quickly as possible!
